Heat Stress Explained
Lost Production and onset of Heat Stress in Pigs
Feed intake effected
In tropical and sub-tropical zones much lost production can be attributed
to heat stress where dietary electrolyte balance (DEB) is lost. This influences
appetite, feed intake, liveweight gains, feed conversion efficiency and water
consumption. When high relative humidity accompanies temperatures above
the zone of comfort, the effects are even more serious.
Lost production severe
Lost production may be severe as heat stress develops and dietary electrolyte
balance is lost. Liveweight gains, feed intake, water consumption and feed
conversion efficiency are all directly related to the progressive loss of DEB.
